ISH Young Breeders Programme

The ISH Young Breeders programme is a joint programme between Teagasc and Horse Sport Ireland. It is aimed at those between the ages of 14 to 25 years who are interested in assessing, exhibiting, and breeding performance horses. They do not have to be breeders themselves or necessarily come from an equestrian background. An avid interest and an eagerness to participate and learn is all that is required.

Spring News

Now that there is a stretch in the evenings we are looking forward to getting out more and planning some spring Pony Club activities.

Here are some dates for your diary

18th February
Kilkenny Foxhounds Children’s and Newcomer’s meet
12pm Desart Wood, Cuffesgrange
All are welcome and the jumps will be optional.
Any enquiries to Catherine on 087 814 0503

23rd February (and subsequent Fridays)

For those who haven’t come to one of these evenings, why not give it a try?
No matter what your level or ability, Amy will have you making progress from the start!

3rd March
Cross country and Gallops day at Bramblestown, Gowran
A chance to improve your cross country skills over some natural fences and around the all-weather gallop.
We will split into two groups and keep the beginners separate from the more advanced riders so this day is suitable for proven XC performers as well as those making their debuts.

4th March
North Kilkenny Winter Triathlon
An ideal warm up for Minimus competitors and even for those who are looking ahead to next year.
It’s a 2 minute swim and a 1km run – why not give it a go.

30th March
Inter-Branch Team Showjumping at Ballinamona Equestrian Centre
Heights: 50cm-60cm, 70cm-80cm, 90cm and 1 metre
We would love to get some teams of four together but if not, individuals are always welcome to participate. It’s always a great day – hopefully there will be Easter eggs for all again this year!

Cross Country training
We will also be having XC training days at Ballintober and The Field.
Dates for these are yet to be confirmed.

Pony Club sweatshirts
We will be making an order to get some of theses in time for our first rally so please let Claire (claire@goodad.ie or 086 853 5115) know if you need one. There are two sizes: Under 12 and Over 12.

CROSS COUNTRY TRAINING
The final cross country training is on Saturday at The Field, Ballyadams.
Please see our Facebook page for directions.

OPTION FENCES 2017
The Tetrathlon Committee has asked that all members taking part in the 2017 Minimus Championships and their parents become familiar with and encourage the use of the Option Fences especially for the newer younger riders going out cross country.

The Option Fences introduced in 2016 in response to feedback were not fully utilised because of the lack of understanding and the reason for having them at local level by parents, trainers and committee members. Option Fences will be numbered the same as the fence it is beside but with an O beside the number. It will be of a lesser height and more encouraging to jump, to allow members to move forward on the course.

The penalty for taking the option is 70 penalties this year, (as opposed to 200 penalties for three refusals at the main fence).

Venue Change for Camp 2017

The venue for camp has been changed!

It will now take place at Coolroe, Graiguenamanagh by kind permission of the O’Shea family. Along with the usual dressage arena and showjumps, we’ll have on site cross country fences, farm tracks and a stream (which might come in handy for a water fight…).

More details to follow as we get closer to the dates.
